James Turner, father of Ruth Turner Hurt, wife of Moses Hurt, made a deed of gift on 3-23-1761 to Moses Hurt and wife, Ruth Hurt and their son James hurt of 200 acres of land on Mobberlys Creek in Bedford County, Va. (Deed Book A1, page 387, Bedford County, Va.)

Bedford Co. Court Order Book IB 1754-1761 pg. 15 is the earliest record showing that Moses and his father-in-law were in Bedford county on 26 Aug 1754. Named in road-clearing work order along with two eldest sons, Bedford Court,"Moses Hurt, James Turner etal granted leave to clear road from Goose Creek down Falling Mountain. Order Book 4, pg. 64, June 1772.

Moses owned 200 acres in the Bedford County area. He appears in the 1787 and 1800 census of Bedford County Virginia.

Recommended as an ensign, Bedford Co. Court Order Book 6, pg. 262 on 25 Oct 1779.

Listed as a VA taxpayer in Bedford Co. in 1782-1787, pg. 64. Bedford Co. Will Book 3, pg. 121. Will dated 1 Feb 1802, probated 28 Sep 1806. The Early Hurt Family of VA, Oscar H. Hurt, pg. 64, FHL# 854152-4.

Moses Hurt's will was witnessed by Lewis Holliday and Frances Leftwich.
