Reuben Hurt - son of Joseph Jr. and Mildred Burnett was born in Wayne Co., KY on 24 Nov 1819. Raised in Wayne Co. until about 1840 when he purchased a farm in Clinton Co., KY. He purchased mules and cattle and drove them to Atlanta, Georgia where he was at the outbreak of the Civil War. His entire herd was confiscated by the Confederate government and the notes he had taken in payment proved worthless.

He enlisted in the 12th Ky Volunteers and was commissioned a 1st Lt. He was at the Battle of Atlanta in the army of General Sherman. He was promoted to Capt. during the march to Atlanta. He was granted a leave of absence and was shot and killed by Rebel guerillas on 24 Jan 1865. Buried in the Hopkins Cemetery in Clinton Co. His wife, Anna Sallee, went with children to Neosho, Kansas in 1869. She died 4 Feb 1900 and was buried there.

Five sons were officers with the Union Army in the War: Harrison, Joseph, Martin, Moses and John. The latter killed by Confederate guerilla, Champ Ferguson in May 1865.
