Last Sunday at 10 a. m., Mr. Wm. S. HURT departed this life, the cause of his death being pneumonia fever. Only a few days from the enjoyment of good health to the cold embrace of the grave. Mr. HURT was fifty-one years old and was a hard working man and a good citizen. He once belonged to the Methodist church but at the time of his death was not an active member. However, he seemed to be ready for the great change and when death came he passed over the river in peace. A wife and six children survive him. In this death a good citizen is lost to Adair county and the members of the family have the sympathy of the News.

Mrs. W. B. Hurt Dead: The sympathy of the people of this county go out to Mr. W.B. Hurt who was bereft of his beloved wife last Saturday afternoon. She was about 60 years of age, and was one of Adair County's best women. The deceased was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and many years ago mad preparations to meet her God. She possessed a benevolent disposition, remarkably kind to her neighbors, and was an affectionate wife and mother. The funeral services were held at her home Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. W. H. C. Sandidge, who spoke pathetically of the excellent traits of the departed, and at the close of his remarks the remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground. The deceased was the second wife of Mr. W. B. Hurt, and besides the sorrowing husband two children are bereft of a devoted mother.

Mr. Bassett HURT, of Macomb, Ill., was notified of the serious illness of his father but he did not arrive in time to see his father alive.

Mrs. Nora A. (Burris)Hurt, a life-long resident of Bates County passed away Thursday, December 15, 1949, at Butler Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hurt had been in failing health for several months and had been a patient in the hospital for about a week. She was 74 years of age at the time of her death.
Nora A. Burris, the eldest child of Thomas and Cynthia Burris, was born in Bates County, Missouri, May 14, 1875. She grew to young womanhood in the community of her birth.
August 6, 1901, she was united in marriage with Montie L. Hurt. After their marriage, the young couple established their home in the community northeast of Altona. It was in this community that they reared their five children, all of whom survive. They are James T. Hurt, Adrian; Ula T. Hough, Garden City; Arcie L. Hurt, Butler; Gifford R. Hurt, Adrian; and Alledra C. Silver, Kansas City, Kansas.
In later year, the Hurts lived on a farm in the Crescent Hill community. They have made their home in Adrian for the past year.
In Addition to her husband and children, Mrs. Hurt is survived by two brothers, The Rev. James Burris, Peculiar; and Ezra T. Burris, Urich. There are 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hurt was converted to Christianity early in life. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 18 from the Adrian Evangelical United Brethren church conducted by the Rev. Elmer . She was buried at the Crescent Hill Cemetery.

James Thomas Hurt, son of Nora Burris and Montie Lee Hurt was born May 3, 1902 in Bates County, MO. His life expired at the home East of Adrian January 18, 1955.
He was united in marriage December 21, 1920 to Miss Maude King at Clinton, Mo. To this union was born one daughter who died in infancy.
He was an active member of the United Brethren Church in Adrian. He had served as superintendent of the church school for two years, holding that position at the time of his death. He had been an active farmer for the past 20 years in this community. His entire life was spent in Bates County except for 13 years when he lived in Kansas City, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Maude of the home; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Montie Lee Hurt of Adrian; two sisters, Mrs. Irven Hough of Garden City, Mo. and Mrs. Asa Silver of Kansas City; two brothers, Arcie Lee of Butler and Gifford Rolland of Kansas City; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at the Adrian Evangelical United Brethren church Friday, January 21, 1955 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Dorsey Levell, assisted by Rev. Clyde Sparks. Burial was in the Clear Fork Cemetery at East Lynne, Mo.

Arcie Lee Hurt Killed in tragic car/truck crash on US 71
Local beer distributor's car side swipes coal truck North of Butler.
Arcie Lee Hurt, 46, of the Hurt Distributing Company on West Chestnut Street of this City, was instantly killed Wednesday evening, November 9, at 5:30 p.m. One and 3/10 miles south of the Junction of 71 and 18 Highways in Adrian, is what was most described as one of the most violent and brutal smash-ups in the history of Bates County.
Barney Ray Wallace, 37, of Marysville, Mo. was traveling north in a 51 Chevrolet truck, traveling at about 45 miles per hour, loaded with about 9 tons of coal, according to highway patrolman Sgt. Fred Rodeck, when the 1952 Hudson Sedan, traveling south, driven by Hurt, at approximately 75 miles per hour sideswiped a truck, completely demolishing the Hudson and killing the driver instantly. The truck was damaged considerably bu the driver was unharmed.
It was reported the Hurt met such an instant and violent death that his body was barely recognizable by a Butler resident, who came upon the scene of the accident shortly after it occured.
Both car and truck were towed to a garage at Adrian, Mo.
Mr. Hurt was born in Bates County, the son of Montie Lee and Nora A. (Burris) Hurt, and had resided in Butler for the past 7 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Rich Hill.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Hurt of the home on East Pine Street, two sons, Willard Hurt, Raytown; Bernard Gene Hurt of the US Navy; three daughters, Miss Bonnie Lou Osborn and Mrs. Elveta Osborn of Kansas City, Mo.; and Mrs. Geneva Silver, Sedalia; one brother, Gifford Hurt, Kansas City, Mo.; and two sisters, Alledia Silver of Kansas City, Ks., and Ula Hough of Creighton, Mo.
Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Culver-Underwood Chapel with Rev. Robert Core officiating. Burial was in the Crescent Hill Cemetery near Adrian.

Gifford Roland Hurt, the son of Montie Lee and Nora A. (Burris) Hurt was born in Bates County Missouri, February 8, 1911 and departed this live(sic) at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. October 24, 1978 at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 16 days.
He leaves to mourn him, his wife of 24 years, Faye Hurt of the home, two children, Gifford Hurt, Jr. of Salina, Ks. and Evelyn Bunnell of McCook, Neb.; four step-children, Leroy Mooneyham of Kansas Cit, Ks., James Mooneyham and Dorothy Henley of Kansas City, Mo. and Carol Martin of Oak Grove, Mo. Also surviving is his sister Alledra Silver of Kansas City, Ks., nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James Thomas and Arcie Lee and one sister, Eula Thelma Hough and two grandchildren.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 27, at the Atkinson-Dickey Chapel, Adrian, Mo. with the Rev. Paul Bond officiating. Interment was in the Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, Mo.

Mrs. Geraldine (Granny) Hurt, 86, of Itasca died Friday, November 7, 2003. She was born October 29, 1917 in Crescent Oklahoma, daughter of the late David and Bessie Mae Davis Hoisington. She married Milford Lionel Hurt March 12, 1934,and he preceded her in death in July of 1981. She traveled most of her life and settled in Hill County in 1980. She was a Pentecostal and was preceded in death by one son, Milford Hurt, Jr., December 31, 1999.
Survivors include: five sons, Melvin Hurt of Hillsboro, Arthur Hurt of Blum and John C. Hurt, James E. Hurt and Lawrence Hurt, all of Whitney; five daughters, Dorothy Mae Perkins of Gatesville, Beatrice Larison and Anna Whipkey, both of Hillsboro, Adeline Coleman of Kerrville and Myrtle Hurt of Georgetown; one brother, Paul Hoisington; one sister, Mildred Massey; and three generations of grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 9, at Covington Cemetery with Roger Stewart officiating.

James K. Hurt, 64, of 2771 Grinstead Drive, died at 12:15 PM Tuesday at SS Joseph Infirmary.
He was a Warren County KY Native. Hurt was an electronics assembler for the Votator Division of Chemetron Corp.
He was a licensed "ham" radio operator.
Survivors include his wife the Former Thelma Harshfield, sid daughters, Mrs. James McKeehnie, of Middlesex N.J., Mrs. John Maher of Miami, FLA., Miss Carol Hurt, Mrs, Charles Buckman, Mrs. N. Scott, and Mrs. Timothy Uptain.
The Funeral will be at 10 AM Friday at McAfee Buechel Funeral Home, 3928 Bardstown Rd.. With burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. The body will be at the funeral home after 6 PM Wednesday.
