Allene Abrams: My great grandmother was Nimmie Hurt, she married James Floyd Price. I have a picture of them. Her father was Robert Myridth Hurt and his wife was Hattie A. Martin. They were from montgomery co. va. Nimmie's brother was Robert Sherman Hurt and Larry Hurt. Sherman's son has a hand written will and grocery bills and other papers from Hattie and Robert M. Hurt. Joyce Borowski (South Bend, Indiana) My father was Clarence Amos Hurt, son of James Allen Hurt, son of John A Hurt, son of James Hurt, son of John Hurt m. Eve Garmon, 1800 in Augusta Cty, VA. John Hurt is said to be the son of Benjamin Hurt of Caroline County and halfbrother to William (Beaver Hat) Hurt.( See Oscar Hurt Book) John was born abt 1769 in VA. Some researchers feel that John was the son of Benjamin but I wonder if this could be correct. My John was in Cumberland Cty Ky by 1810. He had the following sons, Isaac, William, James, Samuel and Andrew Jackson. Samuel was named for a Garmon, Andrew for Andrew Jackson. He would have named one of the sons for his father. Not only did he not use the name, Benjamin but neither did any of his sons. They use William, James and John over and over. Joyce B.

brothers(both living). . My great Grandfather W. T. Hurt, Sr. married Annie Pink Whatley. I have James H. Hurt & Dovie Florence Myers as my ggGrandparents. W. T. Hurt, Sr. was born in Tennessee. I found a marriage certificate in Tennessee for James & Dovie but I am not sure if this is the correct couple? It seems that the RR was a big part of their lives? Texas and Oklahoma were as well. I am looking for any info on James and Dovie Hurt. If any one can help I would greatly appreciate it and be glad to share any info on my family.

Carol Eubanks (Houston, TX) My mother, Mary Jane Kennedy, was given up for adoption in Dallas, Texas after her birth on 10/9/1924. Her bmother, Bertha Hurt, was femme sole. The only information I have is that apparently she was ¼ Native American. The final adoption papers were signed by a Mrs. E. M. Collins and the adoption was handled by Huvelle & Atwell in Dallas.

Shirley Giles is researching Joel John HURT (also known as J. J. HURT or Joel J. HURT) who married Henrietta CHILDS and had children: Joel Fred HURT, Myrten HURT, Josephine HURT, Evelyn HURT, and Etta Dell (Kitten) HURT. We have no information about what became of the boys nor of the son of Josephine HURT. Joel hunted buffalo with William CODY and was a guard on the Overland Express out of Fort Halleck. He was active in the sheep industry in Wyoming and Nebraska.

Lauren Elizabeth HURT Houston, (Nashville, Davidson Co., TN) is researching the genealogy of William HURT (born in Virginia) married to Harriett BROWN. William HURT is listed in the 1850 Tennessee Census as a farmer, 40 years old which would make his date of birth in Virginia approximately 1810.
My father is William Johnson HURT, born in Dickson, TN April 19, 1924. He is the son of Francis Marion HURT (b. 1879, d. 1952, McEwen, TN), son of William Riley HURT (b. approx. 1840, d. ?), (who is the son of William HURT of Virginia described in the first paragraph), and was married to Mary Ann DUNN.

Sandra Hurtt, Bakersfield, CA is looking for information on the Hurtt family from Ireland, County of Cork. Charles Jefferson Hurtt born in Belfast 1883,married Maureen O'Sullivan ,date unknown. Migrated to New York in 1913 died 1927. Children: Charles Jefferson Hurtt born 1910, in Cork, Ireland, and Ruth Hurtt born Cork Ireland1912. Unable to fing entry thru Ellis Island ,or death and burial places of Charles 1927, or Maureen death in 1928, Ruth is said to have died in1948, no record of death found. William Hurtt can not find a link to identify Albert M Hurt's father of Wartburg, Tenn. His son Albert J Hurt also lived in the Wartburg area and contracted the building of the court house there. Albert M may have came down from Kentucky but not sure.
Betty Kirk has been researching the Virginia HURTs for about 30 years and has a good deal of information on them, fairly well documented from Moza HURT's birth c. 1728 in Virginia. If anyone has an interest in her line, which includes MANNS, HIXES, VADENS, and many others, all in Virginia, she would be haappy to share.
Glenda Lawson, So. Calif. Until my brother's DNA test we thought we were Lawson descendants, although I could never find the parents of my Henry b 1815. The DNA proved we are actually HURT descendants and match fourteen 67 and 37 markers exactly. I have contacted these matches and have had no luck making contact with anyone who knows about a Patrick Co. connection.
My gg grandfather Henry LAWSON b abt 1815 Patrick Co. VA was associated with the HURT families of Patrick Co. VA and Surry/Stokes Counties NC. i.e. Rowland/Roland HURT put up the bond money for his marriage. Henry is found living around the James Lawson family whose daughter Elizabeth Lawson married Roland Hurt in 1825. But Elizabeth is not the mother of Henry nor is he related to James Lawson. Between the 1850 and 1860 census Henry moved his family from Patrick Co. VA to Quakers Gap, Surry Co. NC. In Quakers Gap I found a number of old Hurt graves including one for a Dicey Hurt. James Lawson married a Dicey Hurt although not the same one buried in NC. There are also various courthouse records of Hurts living in the area at the time of Henry's move.
I have researched this Lawson family and it's branches for over 15 years. I know the Hurt DNA came into the family with Henry's birth. I have checked the Hurt men in the area at the time that were the age to father children. (See below) Roland was too young, John had migrated to SC? before 1815. So that leaves Joseph Sr., who would have been very old, and Joseph Jr. My bets on Jr. who would have been about 17/18 when Henry was born. Has anyone from Joseph's line submitted DNA?

His Father was Moses Hurt, Jr. His Father was William Hurt.

Laura (b abt 1850) was the daughter of William White Hurt and Nancy Ware.
Laura first married Daniel Boone Bryant. He died about 1875. She married John Collins, 1878, in Adair County, Ky.

ALEXIS MAULDIN, Sewanee, TN I'm still looking for documentation to establish whether or not NATHAN HURT and LUCY (WRIGHT?) are the parents of my NATHAN B HURT (born 1854). I'm reasonably sure they are, but want the documentation. Along that line, I'm now researching both NATHAN HURT/ELIZABETH DAVIS and his brother CHARLES HURT/SARAH WHEELER as possible parents for the elder Nathan. I figure I have to start somewhere and if nothing else, I can cancel them out...

Children: Elva, Oren, John, Ralph, Ethel, Lester, Rayford, Juanell. Found marriage license of William and Emma, but otherwise, he seems to have dropped from outer space. Rumors are his mother was Emily Dalton, cousin of the Dalton gang.
Betty Terrell Owens (Beaumont, Texas) is a descendant of Joel Hurt b.c 1765 in Surry Co. North Carolina who married Anny Dawkins Kerby May 13, 1793 Surry Co. NC and who died in Henderson Co. Tennessee about 1839. Oscar Hurt's book, and "Tidewater to Texas" by Ronald Wayne Hurt are the source of of my early Hurt information. A deed naming the heirs of Joel Hurt that is posted on the Henderson County, Tennessee GenWeb site is the proof of my connection to my Hurt line. Jane "Jincy" Hurt married Jesse Carter and they moved to Upshur County, Texas c 1850.
I would like to find others interested in "my" Joel Hurt, and to find other "stories" about this family. Perhaps collateral lines would help me to identify the grandmothers' families.
Carolyn Hurt Patton, I am researching Albert Hurtt, b. 1804 in VA and d. 5-2-1860 in Morgan Co., TN. He was related to Othenia (Oney) Hurtt who married Absalom Rowland, perhaps she was an aunt. Patsy Phillips, (Tennessee) is researching John HURT, b. 1827, d. 1913, who married Martha Buchanan WRIGHT, b. 1833, d. 1917. She has been told that his father was Benjamin HURT and his mother was Elizabeth Castleman but doesn't know for sure. John lived in and around Davidson Co. and Wilson Co., Tennessee. She is now at a dead end.

Linda Willis, (Dallas, Texas) is descended from William Hurt born South Carolina, 1780 and recorded in the 1850 census of Clarke Co., MS; his wife Lucy (believed to be HAYNES) was recorde with him, born 1785 VA). I am descended from William Hurt's son, Richard Hurt , born 1824 AL, who married Elizabeth CAVE, born 1830 Marengo Co., AL. Richard and Elizabeth Hurt moved later to Texas, settling finally in Milam County. Related families in Mississippi were Haynes, Brady/Bradley, Shotts, Parker, Cave, Bass. In Texas, descendants include Stovall and Dykes/Dikes families among others. Presumably, William Hurt was of the group found in Spartanburg Co., SC, but I could not know for sure, and then related to some of the groups in Georgia.

Varla Wright, (Phoenix, Arizona) specializes in the HURTs of Virginia and pre-immigration Bristol, England. However, she trades information with people who are researching HURTs elsewhere and has a sizeable database of collected HURT info as a result.
Carol Yocom (Salt Lake City, Utah) I am researching Zachariah Hurt (b. est 1785, d. est 1818, Miami county, Ohio) who married Mary Jane ? (b. est 1788, New York, d. Troy, Miami County, Ohio). They had one daughter, Elmira Ann Hurt (b. 12 Apr 1810, Staunton, Miami county, Ohio, d. 29 Dec 1888 in Goshen, Indiana, married Thomas J. Carpenter on 28 Jul 1827, Miami county, Ohio.) Elmira was listed on the 1880 census as her father being born in 'Upper Canada', but I believe that she said "Halifax" (i.e., Virginia or North Carolina) and the enumerator assumed Canada. That's the only clue I have except that he was a pretty rowdy fellow and got arrested for fighting about 1810.
