An introduction to Genetic Genealogy
Genetic Genealogy

DNA or Deoxyribonucleic Acid is the molecule in which genetic information is stored. Chromosomes, and Genes located on Chromosomes, are made of DNA. DNA is a huge polymer made of repeating subunits called nucleotides. The size of DNA molecules or fragments is usually given in terms of nitrogen base pairs. A single human chromosome consists of two DNA molecules extending from one end of the structure to the other. It has been calculated that the average human chromosome consists of 140 million base pairs.
